A twelve year old middle school student in Lincoln is in trouble after police say school officials found a bag of meth in a trash can Wednesday afternoon.
Officer Angela Sands says police were called to Irving Middle School after a student found a bag with drugs in it and reported it to administrators. "One student had thrown the narcotics in a trash can. Another student reported it to the administration, who then recovered the baggie of narcotics."
Officer Sands says the incident is out of the ordinary but doesn't see this as a recurring problem at the school. "As far as a narcotic like this it's not a common thing that we're gonna see on school property. I would hope that this would be an isolated incident for something like this."
It is understandable that parents may be concerned over the incident, but Sands says school officials handled the incident flawlessly. "Anytime a parent hears that narcotics are found on school property it's concerning, but Lincoln Public Schools were made aware of it pretty quickly and took swift action."
Sands says the bag contained 2.5 grams of meth and that the student who threw the baggie in the trash has been referred to juvenile court.
