Ralston Community Mourns The Deaths Of Two Educators

Former Ralston School Board member Dee Huff passed away after a battle with cancer and Ralston Middle School music teacher Marty Frye died of a sudden illness.

Huff spent fifteen years at Ralston’s Baright Public Library and three years on the Ralston Public School Board.

Frye was the band director for more than ten years at Ralston High School before moving into that role at the middle school the last two years.

Ralston Superintendent Dr. Mark Adler says the last two days have been difficult for students and staff. "Just on of those is enough to rock a close knit community. So two in one week is a lot to handle."

Adler says Frye was a fantastic educator who had a way of bringing out the best in his students. "He could just bring a contagious affection for music to our students. That was just amazing for him and he loved performing himself.

Although the Ralston community is grieving, Adler says they are doing everything they can to ease some of the pain. "We have extra counselors on hand across the district. Our students are hurting, and our staff are hurting, they're using those services and trying to move forward as best we can."

A visitation for Huff will be Thursday from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Bethany Funeral Home followed by a funeral service Friday at 11:00 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. A "Ms. Dee" memorial scholarship fund has been set up in her honor to promote child literacy in Ralston.

No funeral details have been released yet for Frye.
