OPPD Working Around The Clock After Storms Roll Through

Severe weather pounded eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa Tuesday and Wednesday causing widespread power outages in the area.

Jodi Baker from OPPD says crews have been working around the clock to restore power and prepare for any additional outages. "We've had 110 crews out working since the outages began and they've been continuing to work through this. They are preparing and bracing for the fact that more weather appears to be on the way and they're ready for it."

Baker asks that if your power does go out, be patient while crews work to restore electricity. "They've been working through some really tough conditions, through a lot of pounding rain last night and they've been working really hard. So, we hope that our customers can understand that and be a little bit patient. We know it's so hard to be without your power."

She also stresses that if you do see downed power lines, use extreme caution. "We've seen a lot of downed lines and downed tree limbs, and those kinds of things. We need people to make sure to treat all downed power lines as if they are live and high voltage. Stay at least 30 feet back and call 9-1-1 to report it."

If you need to report an outage you can call 1-800-554-6773 or report it online here.
