Woman Throws Hat In Political Ring After Husband's Death

A Southwest Iowa woman is throwing her hat into the political ring with a heavy heart. Retired educator Carol Forristall is running for an Iowa House seat that her husband held until his death last week.

Rep. Greg Forristall served the Pottawattamie County, District 22, in the Iowa House of Representatives for ten years until he passed away from cancer.

The district covers the rural part of the county and an eastern part of Council Bluffs.

Carol says her husband asked her to campaign for the seat before his death. “Before Greg passed, he asked me to run for his seat, and I intend to do so.”

Carol says she would focus on enhancing education, protecting agriculture and providing tax relief if elected. “As a legislator, I’ll focus on providing Iowans the best schools in the nation, protecting our most important commodity-agriculture, and providing tax relief for hardworking, middle-class families.”

For the last nine years Carol has served as a Legislative Clerk in the Iowa House, a position she says gives her an upper hand. “I know the legislature and how to get things done, but more importantly, I know my neighbors and the needs of our community. It would be an honor to continue to serve the citizens of District 22, and I will work hard every day to promote our principles of liberty, freedom, and allow Iowans to live full lives.”

Carol Forristall had farmed in Pottawattamie County with her husband for 25 years before he lost his battle with cancer on May 10th.
