Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Standoff

Bellevue Police have arrested an Omaha man for attempted murder and other charges following a foot chase and standoff Saturday.

38 year Luis Alberto Vera-Rios, 38, was arrested Saturday night. 

According to police, officers were conducting follow up on an incident that occurred early Friday morning and were looking for 38 year old Luis Alberto Vera-Rios.

While patrolling the parking lot of the Chandler Pointe Apartments on Saturday, officers spotted Vera-Rios inside of his vehicle. When officers approached, Vera-Rios took off on foot. 

Police say Vera-Rios ran into an apartment at 3022 Nebraska Drive. Residents of the apartment ran outside and told officers the suspect was inside and possibly armed with a handgun.

Bellevue Police secured the area and the South Metro Swat Team was called in to assist. Attempts to call Vera-Rios out of the apartment were unsuccessful. Residents of the apartment told police Vera-Rios was the only person inside the apartment. 

At approximately 9:15 p.m., a chemical agent was deployed into the apartment. Vera-Rios exited and was taken into custody without further incident. 

Luis Alberto Vera-Rios was transported to the Sarpy County Jail and booked for Attempted Murder, Burglary, Terroristic Threats, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, 1st Degree Trespassing, and Obstructing a Police Officer.
