Insurance Giant Leaves Nebraska Obamacare Marketplace

One of the last remaining insurance providers in Nebraska's Affordable Care Act market is leaving.

Aetna Health announced Wednesday that they would stop offering coverage on the Nebraska exchange in 2018.

Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon says this decision shows the instability of Obamacare. "This move by Aetna can be placed squarely on the structural issues with the current marketplace that have led to carriers leaving and co-ops failing."

In 2017 the insurance giant withdrew from eleven of the fifteen state market's they provided coverage through and in April announced they would pull out of Iowa and Virginia.

Wednesday's announcement included leaving the Delaware market as well, meaning Aetna is no longer an option in any state through the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

The only provider left now in Nebraska's marketplace is Medica, and their officials say that the company hasn't made a decision on staying in the Nebraska exchange or not.

Rep. Bacon says it is a critical rescue mission to save healthcare now. "We must act now to save healthcare for Americans. The AHCA is the first step in doing just that. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to act quickly."
