Woman Cited After Child Was Trapped In Hot Van

An Omaha woman has been cited after allegedly leaving a three year old child in a hot van near 19th and Binney Monday morning.

Omaha police say 57 year old Tina Youngblood was cited for child neglect on Tuesday.

Police say neighbor Antoinette Jones was walking her dogs just after 11:00. She heard noises, that she thought was a cat, coming from the van.

Jones took her dogs back home and returned about five minutes later to find the girl trapped in the locked van.

Rescue crews arrived just before 11:30 and broke out a window to save the trapped child. The temperature inside the van had reached 115 degrees by the point they could get the girl out.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle's owner who told them she owned a day care center in Bellevue and that her sister, Youngblood, had driven the van on Monday.

Youngblood told police that she picked children up for daycare starting at 7:50 AM, and dropped them all off after 10:00. She says she got back home just after 10:30, parked and did not see any children in the van when she checked in the rear view mirror.
