Stothert Jumps To Early Lead

The polling places are officially closed and the first round of results in the Omaha General election is in.  

In the race for mayor, incumbent Jean Stothert is leading with 57% with 17,941 votes.  Challenger Heath Mello has 42% with 13.387 votes.  

Voters are also selecting their choice for Omaha City Council 

In District 1, incumbent Pete Festersen is leading with 83%, or 4,124 votes over opponent Grant Sturek with 15% and 782 votes.   

In District 2, incumbent Ben Gray is leading with 63% of the vote with 1,633 votes cast.  His opponent Dennis J. Womack has 35% with 928 votes.  

In District 3, incumbent Chris Jerram is leading opponent D'Shawn Cunningham.  Jerram has 3,377 votes, 78% with Cunningham at 20% and 863 votes.   

In District 4 there are two newcomers.  Vinny Palermo is leading Jim Rogers.  Palermo has 54% of the vote with 1,455 votes and Rogers 44% with 1,183 votes.  

In District 5, Rich Pahls is running unopposed and has 96% of the vote in his district with 4,102 votes.  

In District 6 there are two newcomers to the council.  Brinker Harding is leading Dwite Pedersen.  Harding has 65% of the vote with 3.845 counted in this first round.  Pedersen has 33% with 1,985 votes.   

In District 7, incumbent Aimee Melton is leading with 67%, or 2,977 votes with her  opponent Brian Thommes coming in with 32% and 1,448 votes.
