Election Commissioner Says Smooth Sailing During Voting

It has been an easy-going day so far for most voters on Tuesday.

Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that there was been a good turnout in the morning. "We've had a great day. Things have been smooth sailing, the weather's been beautiful, midday collection is in and it appears that voters are excited for this election. It was a strong pickup at midday."

Kruse says his office collected ballots from not only polling places, but drop boxes as well during their collection. He says they collected about 1,200 ballots from those drop off locations. "So that leaves 2,800 ballots out there from people that requested a ballot by mail. We just encourage people to get those ballots back to a drop box by 8:00."

He says other than, run of the mill calls about voting, there have been no major issues at polls. "There's really been basically no major problems today. It's really been smooth sailing other than the normal questions."

Kruse is optimistic about reaching the estimated 31% voter turnout that he predicted last week. "We'd be thrilled to death if we are more than the 31 percent. I think we're gonna get to at least 31 percent, maybe a little more, but we'll have to wait and see what this afternoon and evening brings."

Polls close at 8:00 PM, with the first results expected shortly after.
