Careless Smoking Sparks Apartment Fire

A Saturday evening apartment fire left 14 people without a place to live.  The fire broke out around 6:00 on a third floor balcony near 120th and L Street.

Firefighters put it out in about 30 minutes.  Twelve apartment units were damaged and 14 people were displaced.  The Red Cross is now assisting them.

Investigators say improperly discarded smoking materials sparked the fire and caused an estimated $200-thousand damage.
