There was a lot of pink and blue in the maternity ward at Methodist Women's Hospital on Thursday. A record 29 babies were delivered in 24 hours.
The new record edged the old record by one birth. Twenty-eight were delivered on August 4, 2015. The new record began at 12:15 a.m. and the babies kept coming until the last one came into the world at 11:56 p.m.
There were 15 boys and 14 girls and one set of twins. So far in 2017, the daily average has been about 14 babies per day. Staff members said births tend to pick up in the summer months. Overall, doctors were pleased with how everything went.
"It was fantastic," Dr. Brianne KlinG said. "All of our patients did great. The babies were super healthy. Everybody was very happy."
