As thousands of people descend on Omaha for the annual Berkshire Hathaway meeting this weekend, other businesses are preparing for a big influx in customers.
One of those businesses is one of Warren Buffett's personal favorites, Gorat's Steakhouse.
Gorat's owner Gene Dunn says he expects thousands through his doors this weekend. "We should have between 2,500 and 3,000. We started last night and we will be fully booked until Sunday at 11:00."
With large crowds expected all weekend, Dunn says he had to beef up his staff to keep up with all those hungry people. "The staffing is one of the big issues too, making sure we have enough staff. We bring on probably an extra fifteen people to help."
Lots of people also means, a lot of steaks will be coming out of the kitchen at Gorat's. Dunn says he expects to serve between 1,500 and 2,000 pounds of steak this weekend. "We've order in about 1,300 t-bones, along with probably 1,000 eight ounce and ten ounce steaks."
Of course, people want to know, 'What does Warren order when he come to Gorat's?' Dunn says Buffett is a true Nebraskan when it comes to his order. "He is a meat and potatoes guy. He doesn't like the vegetables, but he does enjoy a good steak."
With international eyes on Omaha during the meeting, Dunn says there is a lot of pressure on the restaurant, but he enjoys giving visitors a taste of Omaha. "It's a great honor and Mr. Buffett has done a tremendous amount for both Omaha and the nation. So it's always a great honor to have him here."
