Teen Honors Deputy Burbridge; Calls Burbridge His Hero

There is no doubt that fallen Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Burbridge served and protected the citizens of the county, and one Council Bluffs teen is crediting Burbridge with saving his life.

In August of 2016 nineteen year old Peter Hobart led law enforcement on a pursuit that ended in a wreck near Christy Cremes in Council Bluffs.

That is when Hobart tells WOWT 6 News that Deputy Burbridge came into his life, and everything changed. Burbridge was one of the people that saved Hobart from the mangled wreckage after the crash. “This is their job. Their job is to protect the service here, and that's what he stood by, that's what he did.”

Hobart would go on to forge a positive relationship with Burbridge while working through the fallout from his crimes.

He says Burbridge always treated those he worked with, with the utmost respect. “He never said anything negative of us. The inspiration to keep our heads up, that was always there. He was always telling us to keep it up and keep doing well.”

The teen says he hopes he can be a hero for someone else, and help them just as Burbridge did for him.
