Omaha Farmer's Market Set To Open This Weekend

The Omaha Farmer's Market is set to open for another season this weekend at its locations in the historic Old Market and Aksarben Village.

The Old Market location will be open Saturdays, running May 6th through October 14th from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

The Aksarben Village location will host the popular market on Sundays from May 7th through October 15th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Organizer Kylie Feilmeier says the markets will feature many returning vendors, with a few new faces as well. "On Saturday, our Old Market location, we have eight new vendors and on Sunday we have eleven new vendors."

Feilmeier says the new vendors have a wide variety of options for shoppers. "We have a vendor that is selling fairy gardens and terrariums and succulents. Then we also have a lot more produce vendors coming in, as well as a gourmet doughnut vendor, some hand made ice pops made of produce and fruits the vendor actually gets from other vendors within the market."

Along with the new faces at the market, Feilmeier says you can still find many favorite items that have been staples over the years. "We have jerky, we have spices, seasonings, baked goods, meats and cheeses, and a mix of crafts vendors."

Since the market started in 1994, it has grown in popularity and Feilmeier says the Farmer's Market's diversity of local vendors keeps bringing people back year after year. "It's just a fun environment for people to get out, bring their families and shop local."

Vendors are required to sell products they have grown or created themselves and all items sold at the markets come from within 150 miles of Omaha.
