Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse predicts a 31% voter turnout for Tuesday's 2017 City of Omaha General Election.
Kruse says, “Voters who exercise their right to vote by participating in this election are choosing leaders who have an impact on their everyday lives, such as swimming pools, parks, streets, and so much more."
The voter turnouts for previous City of Omaha primary elections were 44.9 percent in 2001, 24.7 percent in 2005, 31.6 percent in 2009, and 27.8 percent in 2013.
As of May 1, 2017, there were 282,302 City of Omaha residents registered to vote, including 114,911 Democrats, 98,625 Republicans, 3,334 Libertarians, and 65,432 Nonpartisan. A turnout of 31 percent would result in 87,513 votes cast.
Kruse says voters can still cast a ballot early through Monday. The Douglas County Election Commission Office is located near 114th and Davenport and hours are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Kruse says the office will also be open this Saturday, May 6th from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The City of Omaha General Election is Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Polls are open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
