A Pottawattamie Sheriff's Deputy has died after a shooting at the jail late Monday morning. The incident happened around 11:00 when a convict reportedly escaped in a transpsort van. Two deputies were shot as the van sped from the parking lot.
After the escape, the convict, believed to be Wesley Correa-Carmenaty, fled into Omaha. He was in jail for murder and attempted murder.
Police say he fled across the state line into Omaha, was involved in a carjacking and then a high speed pursuit. He crashed near I-480 and Cuming Street.
The deputies names have not been released yet. There will be a news conference at 4:30 to provide an update on the incident.
