NU President Halts Search For New UNO Chancellor

The search for a new University of Nebraska at Omaha chancellor is on hold according to NU President Hank Bounds.

Bounds announced Thursday that he has appointed UNMC Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey Gold to be the interim chancellor at UNO. Gold will lead both the UNMC and UNO campuses.

Bounds says Dr. Gold has been chancellor at UNMC since early 2014 and will be a great leader for both UNO and UNMC. "This appointment makes sense financially and, more importantly, it makes sense for our students, faculty, staff and Nebraskans. Jeff is the right person, at the right time, to lead UNO into the future."

Gold says he admires the work that is being done at UNO and is ready to help lead Nebraska-Omaha into the future. "Our campuses have a long record of collaboration and I am humbled and honored to get to know UNO and its people even better in the months ahead. This is an opportunity to work together to change the world, and we will."

Dr. Gold came to UNMC after serving as chancellor of the University of Toledo’s academic and clinical health sciences.

The search began in November 2016 after current UNO Chancellor John Christensen announced that he would be stepping down after more than ten years at Nebraska-Omaha.
