New Life For Run Down Strip Mall In La Vista

Now that the last walls of the old strip mall and Walmart on south 84th Street in La Vista have fallen, new buildings will soon start to rise.

Developer Chris Erickson says they should break ground on the first phase of buildings in the next few months. "We have had a really strong interest from a wide array of businesses from the community, so we're really excited about it."

The development, named City Centre, will feature a number of five and six story buildings with retail, dining and office space.

Erickson says City Centre will also have upscale apartments. "It will be about 380 to 385 apartments. It'll be a mixture of studios, one and two bedroom units."

Crews are also tearing up the former nine hole La Vista Falls Golf Course to make room for an expanded lake and park.

The only tenant Erickson confirmed in the new development is no stranger to the 84th Street corridor.  "We'll be relocating First National Bank to their permanent location with this first phase."

The initial phase of construction should be completed by next summer, with the whole development projected to be finished in two to three years.
