Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker Campaigns For Mayor Stothert

Wisconsin Governor, and one time Presidential hopeful, Scott Walker was in Omaha on Monday to campaign for who he believes should be Omaha's next mayor, Jean Stothert.

Walker and Stothert were also joined by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts to praise Stothert's record on growing jobs, cutting taxes and standing up to unions.

Walker said that all the work Stothert has put in for Omaha should make her the ideal choice for mayor. "Where you've had not once, but twice, property tax rates have gone down. This is the kind of mayor, that I think in any other circumstance, should be at a point where it's a slam-dunk, this would be a no-brainer for the voters."

Just outside the rally at the DC Centre though, there were many people who didn't believe Stothert is a "no-brainer".

Many local union members including Steve LeClair, President of the Omaha Firefighters Union, were present to voice their disdain for Stothert. "This mayor really isn't pro-worker, really isn't pro-middle class, really doesn't believe that democracy has a voice in the workplace."

Many of the protesters were holding signs that read "Walker and Stothert Are Bad for Working Families," and pointed to Walker's legislation that restricts collective bargaining in Wisconsin as hurting the ability to get equal pay, retirement and benefits, which is something they don't want to see in Omaha.

Stothert will face challenger Heath Mello in the May 9th General Election.
