Kymica and Justin Hubbard will never forget their trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo Sunday afternoon.
Kymica gave birth to baby girl Drea, with the help of proud dad Justin, near the zoo's north entrance as the family was trying to leave.
The Hubbards say they spent Saturday and Sunday at the zoo with their family, but after Sunday's trip they would leave with an extra family member.
Kymica said she felt contractions while she rode the train at the zoo. "I was having contractions, and it was getting closer and closer together, and I was telling my husband okay it's time to get off the train and let's go to the emergency room."
She said they got off the train, but after using the restroom she felt her water break and told her mom it was go time. "We left the restroom and she was like okay, 'maybe you can make it to the car,' and I said I don't think I can make it to the car mom!"
Proud papa Justin was able to help his wife bring their daughter into the world, right there by the zoo gates. "I was like 'her head, her head!' and he was like 'What do you mean her head?' and then he was like 'Oh my god, she's having the baby!' She just came out and he delivered her."
Justin says his mother-in-law took the couple's children to get ice cream during the delivery, but were able to make it back just after Drea made her grand entrance.
Mom and baby were transported to Nebraska Medicine, where both are doing great.
Justin says they have already planned how to celebrate Drea's first birthday. "We're going to the zoo. We might set that up as an annual thing."
