In an effort to prevent identity theft, the Better Business Bureau is giving residents and businesses in the metro area a chance to safely destroy up to three boxes or bags of sensitive documents.
The BBB’s Secure Your ID Day will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Methodist Health System at 85th and Dodge Streets.
“Consumers have little ability to completely stop or prevent identity theft because scammers are becoming smarter, making it easier for them to steal identities, but there are things you can do to reduce the chances of your identity being stolen,” says BBB spokesman Jim Hegarty.
“One way to help yourself avoid becoming a victim of this crime is to be sure to shred any records that contain personal information before you throw them away.”
