Charges have been filed against a Tecumseh State Correctional Institute inmate in connection with the death of his cell mate earlier this week.
Authorities say 39 year old Patrick Schroeder was charged in Johnson County Friday with First Degree Murder and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.
Schroeder is accused of killing his cell mate, 22 year old Terry Berry. On Saturday, April 15th corrections personnel were called to Berry and Schroeder's cell just after 7:30 PM.
Berry was found unresponsive, taken to Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln and placed on life support. He was taken off of life support and pronounced dead on Thursday.
An autopsy was performed Friday and determined the cause of death as strangulation.
Schroeder has been in and out of the system most of his adult life and received a life sentence in 2006 for First Degree Murder. He is expected to appear in Johnson County Court on May 3rd.
