Omahans are gearing up to celebrate the 28th Annual Earth Day on Saturday. Earth Day Omaha is the city's largest ecological showcase, and the best part is that the event is free.
The celebration will be held Saturday, April 22nd at Elmwood Park from 11:00 AM till 6:00 PM.
The event is put on by The Earth Day Omaha Coalition, and Board Chair Liz Davis says everyone can find something fun at Earth Day. "One thing we want everyone that is able to attend the event to do, is to take at least something they can go home and do to be more green."
There will be live music, children's activities, environmentally focused demonstrations and bicycle safety courses.
Davis says a big hit at Earth Day year after year is the opportunity to recycle old electronics. "If you do have old computers, or cell phones, or iPods, or anything of that sort, we are taking all of those donations."
Davis says the electronic recycling is offered at no charge to the public. "In past years, I believe, we recycled up to 25,000 pounds of electronic recyclables, and we wanna make it as easy for people to bring those items as possible."
The Earth Day celebration will also feature food from area vendors, valet bicycle parking and health & wellness demonstrations.
