Tecumseh Prison Inmate Dies

An inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institute has died after being found unresponsive over the weekend.

Authorities say they were notified by medical staff at Bryan West Hospital that 22 year old Terry Berry was taken off of life support around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.

According to the coroner, Berry's death date will be noted on his death certificate as Monday, April 17th, which is when doctors declared him legally brain dead.

Prison officials say Berry was found unresponsive in his cell around 7:45 Saturday night under suspicious circumstances.

Staff members were alerted by Berry's cellmate that he was not breathing and immediately began CPR. He was transported to Johnson County Hospital, then later to Bryan West in Lincoln.

A criminal investigation is underway by the Nebraska State Patrol, but no other details have been released.

According to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services website, Berry was serving two to three years for Second Degree Forgery.

The website also shows that Berry was to appear for a parole hearing in May.
