Students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha are honoring fallen service men and women this week during their "Tribute to the Fallen" event.
Students placed nearly 7,000 flags in the pep bowl on UNO's campus to honor those who lost their lives serving in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001.
The event started at 8:30 Monday morning, with the reading of the names of each fallen service member by military affiliated students and additional volunteers. Names will be read throughout the week long event.
In coordination with the tribute, a photo collection in the Milo Bail Student Center will feature pictures of hundreds of Nebraskans who sacrificed their lives in service. The photos will be on display at the student center until Sunday, April 23rd.
The "Tribute to the Fallen" runs from Monday, April 17th through Friday, April 21st at the Milo Bail Plaza.
If you would like to volunteer to read the names of fallen veterans you can do so here.
