Honor Flight Set To Take Off May 1st

About 650 Nebraska Vietnam War veterans will board planes on May 1st and head to Washington D.C.

The veterans will be taking part in an honor flight to the Nation's Capital.

Organizer Bill Williams says after an early morning flight out of Eppley, the vets will visit a number of monuments while in D.C. "We're off to the Vietnam Wall, where all 650, all fifteen buses, will be there at the same time for about three hours."

Williams says the entire trip is funded by generous donors. "These are all Nebraskans stepping up to make this happen for these Vietnam veterans. This is about a $650,000 expense, and most of that are the three airplanes."

The vets will return that same day around 8:30, and Williams hopes that thousands will gather at the Lincoln Airport to welcome the vets home. "If the weather's good, then we think it could easily go over 6,000 people to participate in the home coming for these deserving Vietnam veterans."
