OPS Board Recommends Mark Evans As Interim Superintendent

The Omaha Public Schools Board of Accountability met Friday to discuss applicants for the role of Interim Superintendent.

The four member committee voted three to one to direct the board to negotiate with current Superintendent Mark Evans for the 2017-2018 school year.

Board President Lacey Merica says the decision is for the benefit of students and staff. "The decision was made in part to Mr. Evans' recent sharing of his personal position with the Board of Education this past Tuesday, April 11, in order to provide stability to staff and the 52,000 students in this district."

The committee also recommended that none of the applicants for the interim position be selected as finalists.

The full school board is set to vote on Evans' contract recommendations at their meeting on Monday, April 17th.
