Omaha's Union Station can now officially be called a National Historic Landmark. A plaque was unveiled during a ceremony on Friday.
It's the 21 historic landmark in Nebraska and the first one designated since 1993. The building was constructed in 1931 and is known for it's art deco architecture.
The Union Station building is now on the list of nearly 2,500 buildings recognized on this level and Bob Bryson with the National Park Service says it's a big honor. "This puts the Omaha Union Station on the same level of significance as Carnegie Hall, The Brooklyn Bridge and the White House."
Bryson says they all represent some aspect of American heritage. "They are usually exceptional illustrations of our nation's history, it's architecture and it's culture."
