The Omaha Public School Board voted Monday night to begin an application process to hire a temporary superintendent for next school year. The board also decided to take on the application process themselves without the help of an outside firm.
The move comes after the top three candidates to replace Mark Evans withdrew from consideration, putting the board back to square one.
Anyone applying for the temporary position will not be allowed to apply for the permanent superintendent job. Applications will be accepted by the district for Interim Superintendent until April 12th. An accountability committee, consisting of current board members, will review applications and recommend the top three applicants to the board at their next meeting on April 17th.
Some board members Monday proposed keeping Evans in his position with a new contract as a more "stable" option. Evans shared his concerns for the future of the position. Evans said he's not sure if the Board of Education is "unified" which would affect his decision.
