Stolen bases are common in baseball, but stolen statues?
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in locating four bronze statues that were stolen from the Sand Lot Baseball Complex near 192nd and West Dodge.
Lieutenant William Dinn says the statues were not on display when they were stolen. "The statues were part of the grounds that had been placed in storage due to their value."
Dinn says the statues were stolen sometime between March 18th and 21st. "The facility's being maintained by a caretaker who does not go there on a regular basis. He made the report after going there after a long weekend and discovered that the storage facility had been broken into and the statues were missing."
The four statues are valued at $40,000 total. They are described as two bronze lions, a statue of a little boy and one of two children with a ladder.
The Sheriff's Department is requesting help from the public in locating the statues which may have been sent off for scrap metal or posted for sale outside the Omaha Metro area.
