2017 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship

Five hundred teams from the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, China, Lebanon and several other countries will be in the Omaha metro area this week for the 2017 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship.

This is the signature event for the CREATE Foundation and one of the largest K-12 robotics competitions in the world with over 2,500 students, educators and spectators expected to participate.

Foundation President Jim Schulte says the students will form teams that will operate a robot they have designed and built to achieve the highest score in an action-packed game.  The teams are pared in alliances that test their competitive skill, ability to collaborate and their understanding of technology.  Their goal is to get more students interested in science, technology, engineering and math education.

The event will be held at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs April 4th through the 8th.  The tournament is free and open to the public.

The CREATE Foundation is an Omaha-based non-profit organization founded in 2008 and has helped the number of competitive robotics teams in the state grow from zero in 2008 to over 375 this year.
