Terroristic Threats Called Into Council Bluffs High School

The Council Bluffs Police Department is looking into who placed a threatening phone call to Lewis Central High School Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 1:30 Pottawattamie County 911 received a call from an unknown male who said he was armed inside of Lewis Central.

The caller threatened to shoot people inside the building and set off explosives. Law enforcement responded and searched the school, but found no shooter or explosives.

Both Lewis Central High School and Middle School had early release Wednesday, so very few students were at the school at the time.

However, teachers and staff were there during the incident and were secured in a safe location while a search was conducted.

Two nearby schools, Titan Hill Intermediate and Iowa School for the Deaf, were placed on lockout status until the situation was deemed safe.

Officers were on hand at both schools during student dismissals as a precaution.

Council Bluffs detectives are investigating who made the threatening call. They say once the caller is identified they could face a number of charges, including making terroristic threats.
