UNO students will be sleeping outside in cardboard boxes for a good cause this week.
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Salvation Army are partnering up for the 14th annual 'Just Cant It' food drive.
The weeklong event helps Omaha's most needy residents. Organizer Jack Buckley says in addition to sleeping in their cardboard boxes, students will collect food and cash donations at the Baxter Arena parking lot. "And they're gonna sleep out in them throughout this week starting tonight, and then we'll be wrapping up Friday morning. So what they're gonna do is try to raise awareness for homelessness problem in Omaha."
The goal is to raise 45,000 non perishable food items such as canned and boxed food items.
Buckley says donations can be dropped off March 27-31 at the arena parking lot near 64th Ave and Center. "You can come drive up, drop off your donations any time you like. We are always accepting, cause there will always be people here."
Items on the list include canned stews and soups, cereal, canned vegetables, boxed mixes, canned meat, canned beans and tomato products, boxed macaroni and cheese, boxed dinners and boxed/bagged rice products.
If you can't make it down to the Baxter Arena, you can also drop off donations at any Omaha Fire Station.
Aksarben Village will also host events at Stinson Park including a movie night on Tuesday and a dunk tanks on Thursday.
