Omaha Hosts International Horse Competition Next Week

Omaha will be back in the national spotlight next week. Preparations are underway at the Century Link Center for the largest equestrian event in the world, the Longines FEI World Cup.

The international event features horses from across the world competing in jumping and dressage.

John McQueen is in charge of building the stables and competition area and tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB it's no easy feat. "We've got 400,000 square foot of polished concrete and I have to make it accessible and safe for a hundred plus horses."

McQueen says they have brought in a number of specialty items in preparation for the horses. "We've brought in rubber matting, we've brought in the footing that they'll ride on, we've brought in close to 200 stalls and all of that has to be erected before the horses get here."

The international horses will begin arriving Saturday and domestic horses will arrive Monday.

The Longines FEI World Cup begins next Wednesday and runs through April 2nd.
