Measles Case Confirmed In Metro Area

Nebraska health officials say a case of measles in the metro area has been confirmed and that the person spent time in Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

Measles is highly contagious and symptoms include a fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes and a sore throat.  It’s possible that other people who were in the same locations may have been exposed.

Eppley Airfield South Terminal and South Baggage Claim (March 12th, 2017 between 10:30 pm and 1:30 am) 

Hampton Inn, 12331 Southport Parkway in La Vista (March 12th, 2017 through March 17th, 2017) 

Urgent Care of Papillion on South 73rd Plaza (March 15th, 2017 between 6 pm and 8:30 pm) 

CHI Urgent Care on South 96th Street in La Vista (March 15th, 2017 between 7 pm and 10 pm) 

Bergan Mercy Hospital Emergency Department (March 15th, 2017 between 8:30 pm and 12:00 am)

Exposure to measles is defined as sharing the same air space with a person with measles, including the two hours following their departure. 

Measles is contagious four days before to four days after the onset of a rash.Anyone infected will notice a rash that spreads over their entire body. The rashes are typically red and blotchy and start with the hairline before it spreads downward to the rest of the body. 

The case was confirmed through laboratory testing in an investigation by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Sarpy Cass Department of Health & Wellness and the Douglas County Health Department.
