Home Surveillance Video Helps Police Nab Pair Of Robbers

Two robbery suspects in Council Bluffs made it incredibly easy for police to find them.

Council Bluffs Police say that just after 11:00 Tuesday night officers responded to a burglary at a garage near 16th Street and 3rd Avenue.

The home's resident presented officers surveillance video that showed the two suspects and the vehicle they were driving.

While officers were still at the scene one of the suspects walked up to them and asked what was going on.

One of the officers recognized the man from the surveillance video and detained him for questioning.

While other officers checked the neighborhood, they located the red Ford Ranger used in the burglary. In the bed of the truck they found several items that had been taken from the garage.

Police contacted and arranged to meet with the truck's owner, who informed officers that the truck had been stolen. Upon meeting with the owner, officers recognized him as the second suspect from the burglary video and took him in for questioning as well.

Over $3,000 was taken from the truck and returned to the victim.

Authorities say both 47 year old Chris Miller and 22 year old Joseph Smith Jr. were arrested and charged with theft and burglary.
