Teen Charged As Adult After Firing At State Trooper

A teenager will face charges as an adult after shooting at Nebraska State Patrol Troopers in February.

Seventeen year old Shane Kildow led law enforcement on a pursuit after they observed a stolen vehicle going 93 MPH in a 65 MPH zone on Highway 275 near Valley.

When a trooper attempted to pull the teen over, he took off through a field and started firing a gun towards the trooper, but did not hit the officer.

Kildow would eventually return to the road before crashing the vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.

He was eventually arrested after being tracked down by OPD's Able One helicopter and K9 unit.

In a March court appearance, where he waived his preliminary hearing, Kildow admitted to firing at the trooper.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says considering the severity of Kildow's actions, his office feels charging him as an adult is warranted. "We think it’s very much appropriate. We charged him as an adult. Thankfully nobody was hurt any more so than he was when he crashed the car. I mean he shot at the State Trooper that was involved and we’re very fortunate nobody else was hurt."

Kildow's bond is set at $1 million.
