A woman and her son were seriously injured Sunday afternoon when they were hit by their own vehicle near 61st and Ames Avenue.
Omaha Police say the woman was in a nearby business and her nine year old son remained in the Ford Explorer.
Investigators say the child put the vehicle into gear and it began to roll backwards out of the strip mall parking lot. The mother ran after the car and tried to get into the drivers seat as the child was trying to get out.
They were both run over by the vehicle. The Explorer ended up on Ames Avenue and was struck by another vehicle. 39 year old Eh Thein suffered an ankle injury. The nine year old suffered a head laceration.
