Man Recovering After Moped Crash

One man is in the hospital after crashing his moped Sunday night. 

Omaha Police say 28 year old Dustin Meckna was driving his Ferrari moped recklessly on northbound 16th Street just after 7:00. 

They say the moped struck the front end of a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero that was stopped waiting to turn onto eastbound Yates Street. 

Meckna was transported to CHI Creighton University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. 

He sustained a skull fracture, bleeding on the brain, facial fractures and a number of other broken bones in the crash. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time. 

Police say Meckna was wearing was a non DOT approved helmet at the time of the accident. 

The driver of the Oldsmobile did not report any injuries. 

The collision remains under investigation.
