Omaha Police Horse Patrol Adds More Horsepower

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer was handed the keys to a brand new Dodge Ram pickup truck on Thursday morning.  The First Responders Foundation donated the pickup truck to the department's mounted horse patrol unit.

Officers will use the vehicle to pull the trailers that haul the horses. “Their mission is to keep the city safe, keep large events safe, have strong police community relations and their special focus is in the Old Market area and other areas where we have large crowds,”  Schmaderer says.

Over the years, the foundation has donated nearly $3 million in equipment for Omaha’s first responders. The previous truck was a ‘93 Ford with more than 100,000 miles that was in poor condition with increasing repair costs.
