OSHA Investigating Omaha Company After Trench Collapse

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration have launched an investigation into an Omaha company after a worker was trapped for hours in a collapsed trench.

An employee with Utility Trenching, 23 year old Drew Johnson, was trapped in a seven to eight foot deep trench for over six hours Tuesday after the trench he was working in collapsed around him.

OSHA spokesman Scott Allen says this isn't the first time Utility Trenching has been under their microscope. "They received three violations in 2008 for excavation standards that weren't being followed and they received a repeat violation in 2012."

Allen says they are in the very early stages of their investigation, but will see if proper OSHA procedures were being followed Tuesday. "OSHA is talking to any potential witnesses, looking at employer records, talking to the employer and trying to determine if OSHA standards and regulations were being followed at the site."

NewsRadio 1110 KFAB reached out to Utility Trenching, but they have refused to comment.
