Utility Worker Trapped In Collapsed Trench

Rescue crews are working Tuesday morning to rescue a man trapped after a eight foot trench collapsed around 9:45 near 130th and Hawthorne Circle.

Authorities say the 23 year old utility worker was hired by a homeowner to do sewer repair work.

Battalion Chief Kathy Bossman says the victim's legs are trapped, so crews are working to get him free.

They have lowered an oxygen mask and tank down to the man so he can get air, but Bossman says they are concerned about hypothermia and a further collapse of the trench.

The man has been conscious and talking during the ordeal.

OSHA and Special Operations are now on the scene to investigate.
