It was announced Tuesday that former Nebraska standout running back Rex Burkhead signed with the New England Patriots.
The terms of Burkhead's contract were not disclosed.
Burkhead was a free agent and had visited both New England and Philadelphia.
The running back spent the last four years in Cincinnati after being drafted in the sixth round in 2013 by the Bengals.
He racked up 27 special teams tackles in his time at Cincinnati, including eleven in 2015 and twelve in 2016, but had seen limited time rushing the ball due to power players Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard.
Burkhead is expected to be used on special teams for the Patriots and could possibly replace Brandon Bolden, who is also an unrestricted free agent.
