Omaha Police Union Approves New Labor Contract

The Omaha Police Officers' Association has voted to approve a new labor contract with the city, ending years of contentious negotiations.

The Union has been working without a new contract since 2013. Last week, the Omaha City Council approved the labor contract with the officers.

Mayor Stothert says she is pleased with the vote. "Our priority has always been to reach a long-term agreement with the Omaha Police Officers Association, so we are pleased with the vote. This collaborative effort will allow Chief Schmaderer to lead the department into the future with a quality work force that has the certainty of a labor agreement."

Under the deal, officers will get back pay for 2016 and 3 percent raises each year from 2017-2020. Officers will also move to a high deductible insurance plan and put more money in their pension plan. The Omaha Police Officers' Association represents more than 750 police officers employed by the city.
