OPS Superintendent Finalist Withdraws

The Omaha Public Schools Board of Education announced Saturday that Dr. Jane Stavem has withdrawn her candidacy for the district's superintendent position.

Stavem is currently the associate superintendent for instruction at Lincoln Public Schools. Before that, she was the superintendent for Blair Community Schools.

Two finalists still remain. Dr. Paul Gasuman of Sioux City Community Schools in Sioux City, Iowa, and Dr. Khalid Mumin of Reading Public Schools in Reading, Pennsylvania.

"We will continue moving forward with the goal of selecting one of the two remaining finalists," OPS Board President Lacey Merica said.

Stavem and the other two finalists held meet and greet sessions with the public earlier in the week.  The Board also interviewed them at meetings on March 6 and 7.

The board will discuss the two finalists at its next meeting on Monday, March 20.
