Homes Damaged In Explosion Finally Torn Down

There is a sigh of relief from neighbors near 65th and Sprague.

Homes that were badly damaged in an explosion are finally being demolished as of Thursday.

The explosion last summer tore through a house, killing a woman and destroying a number of neighboring houses.

Officials say a dryer was disconnected from the gas line by a person helping residents move out of the house.

Since the gas line wasn't turned off, natural gas seeped through the house for days.

When property management employee Clara Bender went to the house on July 25th, two days after the tenants moved out, the house was a ticking bomb quite literally waiting to explode.

The explosion killed Bender and injured two others.
