Burn Ban Issued In Omaha

High winds and dry conditions have caused the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for Eastern Nebraska.

That has also prompted the Omaha Fire Department to issue a burn ban for the city as well. Acting Battalion Chief Steven Thornburg says the ban is in affect until Tuesday morning. "There's no open burning, no fire pits, nothing like that during the burn ban. Just to keep that risk of fire at a minimum."

Thornburg says to take extra care when putting out cigarettes as well. "If you do smoke don't be throwing them out the windows in your cars. If you're smoking on your deck, make sure they're completely extinguished. Take them inside, run them under water or something like that so we don't have a fire on the deck of an apartment building."

The ban will expire at 7:00 AM March 7th, unless high winds persist.
