Nebraska Celebrates 150th Anniversary

Nebraska is celebrating a big milestone Wednesday. It is our sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary of becoming a state. 

Governor Pete Ricketts told NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that the anniversary is a great way to celebrate the people and heroes who have made Nebraska the Good Life. "Chief Standing Bear, think about what he went through to carry his son's body up from Oklahoma back to Nebraska to have him buried here because he loved the state so much."

The Governor and his wife Susanne Shore will spend the day at the Capitol celebrating with fellow Nebraskans at a number of events. All of Wednesday's events are listed below.

  • 10:30 am to 1:00 pm: Actor Portrayals of Willa Cather, Chief Standing Bear & William“Buffalo Bill” Cody. Special Music by Nebraska High School Students 
    • Rotunda, Nebraska State Capitol 1445 K Street Lincoln
  • 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm: Pony Express Delivery 
    • West Side, Nebraska State Capitol
  • 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm: Official Statehood Day Ceremony 
    • George W. Norris Legislative Chamber Nebraska State Capitol 1445 K Street Lincoln
  • 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm “Legacy of Nebraska” Exhibit Grand Opening

    • Nebraska History Museum 131 Centennial Mall North Lincoln
