USPS Honors Nebraska's 150th Anniversary With Stamp

The United States Postal Service will be honoring Nebraska's 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial, with a new forever stamp.

The First Day of Issue dedication ceremony will be held at the Nebraska State Capitol Wednesday.

Governor Pete Ricketts and First Lady Susanne Shore will be on hand for the dedication, along with the stamp photographer Michael Forsberg.

The stamp features a sweeping landscape of the Sandhill Cranes in flight over the Platte River.

Forsberg tucked himself in the prairie grass along the river's banks to catch the birds scouring the sandbars for a safe place to roost. He says he planned for weeks in advance to get the challenging shot.

Since the Nebraska sesquicentennial is a forever stamp, if the price of postage goes up, you will always be able to use it.

The USPS usually issues commemorative stamps every 50 years from the date of a state's first entry into the Union.

Meaning a new stamp will not be issued for Nebraska until its bicentennial in 2067.
