Snow, Wind Impacts Metro Area

Friday marked a return to winter weather across the metro area.  All metro area schools were closed and several organizations postponed events.

Slick roads caused several accidents, including one where a driver slid off the road, went through a fence and ended up in a backyard near 75th and Sorenson Parkway.  The driver was not seriously hurt.

OPPD officials say about 32-hundred customers were without power as of 8:30 Friday morning.  Included in these outages is a locked out circuit impacting 1,182 customers between Giles Rd. and I-80 and 158th Street to 190th.

Another circuit locked out just after 8:00 a.m. in central Omaha. It impacts 1,372 customers between Blondo and Underwood Ave and 53rd St. to 74th Street.  A tree branch came down on a wire near 56th and Western, which OPPD says contributed to the problem.

An OPPD spokesperson says they have a number of other outages, mostly caused by the windy, snowy conditions.  If you experience an outage, report it either via oppd.com or by calling, toll-free, 1-800-554-6773(OPPD).

The metro area could see another 1-3 inches of snow through the day along with 35-40 mile per hour winds.
